LBC listeners were left reeling as 'tetchy' Rishi Sunak lost his cool when questioned on his dire election campaign.

Under the intense scrutiny of presenter Nick Ferrari, Sunak floundered in the aftermath of polls predicting an ill-fated defeat for the Tories - with new data pointing towards potentially the party's worst-ever election result.

From botching D-Day facts to embarrassingly complaining about not having Sky TV while growing up, Sunak's campaign has been marred by uncomfortable moments - causing listeners to take note of his irritable responses when pressed on these issues, reports the Mirror.

Amanda from Cheddar queried the PM: "How well do you think the campaign is going so far?"

Lacking a coherent answer, Sunak avoided the direct question and gave a fumbling reply: "Well morning, er, morning Amanda. I was in the South West yesterday actually, I was in Devon and talking to a lot of people, particularly in our farming communities but more generally as well. I'm really energised to talk to the country about this election."

Ferrari further pulled apart Sunak's troubled background with polling, asking: "When you called the election, the Conservatives were 23% in the polls, they've now gone down to 21%, are you telling me you feel vindicated by calling this election?"

Unwilling to be drawn in, Sunak responded: "The only poll that matters, Nick, is the one on July 4th".

Sunak faced further scrutinisation by the LBC host who asked: "How many points out of 10 would you give your campaign so far?"

The politician audibly lost his cool, as his tone reached a higher pitch. "I'm not interested in those types of things, the poll that matters is on July 4th."

Ferrari pressed: "No I'm asking point out of 10 for the campaign, would you give it 9 out of 10? ".

Sounding exasperated, Mr Sunak repeated: "That's for voters to judge on July 4th. I'm focused on doing the best job I can, working as hard as I can, talking to as many people as I can about this election."

"Rather on commenting on the campaign and how it's going what I'm focused on is talking about the choice of the future, that's what the poll on July 4th is about."

Listeners were far from enamoured by the fumbling PM, as one took to X, formerly Twitter, to write: "Man, Rishi Sunak is being absolute cooked by Nick Ferrari on this LBC phone in."

Another wrote: "Major car crash occurring right now on @LBC...... @RishiSunak doesnt like the questions.......... so is answering different ones."

And a third commented: "Rishi Sunak always get tetchy when he's under pressure lol".

Referring to Boris Johnson's bizarre decision to hide in a fridge away from scrutiny when he was PM, another X user jibed: "Based on how this LBC interview is going I think the Conservatives need to find a fridge for Rishi Sunak to hide in."

Mr Sunak faced harsh criticism from a lady, Ellen, from Bethnal Green over the issue of renting rights. During the exchange, Ellen accused Mr Sunak, saying "you're lying through your teeth" and claimed that the Conservatives have done nothing to assist renters.

An enraged Ellen asked: "How could you possibly argue that life is better for young people now? " To which Mr Sunak responded simply, "I'm sorry you feel like that".

The conversation ended on a bitter note when Ellen dismissed Mr Sunak's efforts at pacifying her with, "Young people don't believe your promises any more."
