Rishi Sunak waves to reporters as he votes in General Election alongside his wife

Rishi Sunak and wife Akshata Murty have visited their local polling station to vote in the General Election.

The Prime Minister said “morning” and waved at reporters as he entered Kirby Sigston Village Hall, a short journey from his grade II-listed manor house.

Mr Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty arrived in a Range Rover and walked hand-in-hand into the village hall, which is surrounded by rolling fields.

He is hoping to be returned to Parliament as the MP for Richmond and Northallerton.

On Wednesday (July 3) the Guardian reported that the PM had told his inner circle he feared losing his seat.

He won't find out whether he has been reelected until about 4am, when the constituency is expected to declare its winner.

Swallows nesting in the eaves of the hall dipped over the heads of the waiting media while a dairy farmer next door took his cattle in for milking.

Mr Sunak, wearing a white shirt underneath a blue jumper, greeted the photographers outside the polling station.

He left without commenting and was driven away, followed by police protection officers.
