Rishi Sunak has amusingly declared that his favourite meal is "sandwiches" during an appearance on ITV's This Morning, prompting a mix of amusement and bewilderment among viewers.

The Prime Minister, facing questions from presenter Ben Shephard about his potential last meal before possibly being ousted in the upcoming polls, chuckled as he said: "I'll be at home in North Yorkshire. I haven't made dinner plans. My favourite meal generally is sandwiches."

He further mentioned that he might enjoy a meat pie from his local butcher, but his preference for the humble sandwich as his top choice left many astonished.

Sky News political reporter Rob Powell tweeted in disbelief: "Did Rishi Sunak just say his favourite food is sandwiches?" While his colleague Tom Larkin questioned: "Er, are sandwiches even a meal?"

On social media platform X, Lindsey Jones humorously suggested the PM might be indulging in more gourmet sandwiches than the average person, writing: "Don't think it's a wafer ham and processed cheese slice one," reports the Mirror.

A user under the name "Disillusioned with Conservatives" sarcastically remarked: "There we have it, Rishi Sunak's favourite meal is sandwiches! Just sums him right up!" Meanwhile, TourGuideLiverp wrote on Twitter: "'Sandwiches' is not a meal."

Mr Sunak was also put on the spot regarding his track record in Government, to which he responded confidently: "With me you know I've got the courage and conviction. You always know where I am."

However, television host Cat Deeley challenged him: "The problem is Prime Minister people have lost faith in that I think is what's happened and that's reflected in the polls and that's reflected in why we're looking at you not getting in again." Mr Sunak admitted that the Tories "haven't got everything right" after enduring several years of turmoil.
