Roadworks to avoid as four-way lights leave A53 gridlocked

Motorists are being snarled up in huge delays on a busy city road after four-way temporary traffic lights went up. Works are currently being carried out at the bottom of Moss Hill, in Stockton Brook - with lights set up on Leek New Road.

Their arrival yesterday triggered queues spiralling way back into Baddeley Green and Endon. The scheme is focused at Moss Hill's junction with the A53 but lights are up on Leek New Road, Moss Hill and Stanley Road.

According to roadworks monitoring site One Network the project is being carried out by Openreach and is expected to be wrapped up by tomorrow (July 4) night. The works in Stockton Brook are not the only ones currently causing delays around North Staffordshire.

Elsewhere and in Wolstanton a sign has gone up warning the busy Grange Lane will be closed to allow for maintenance and repairs. The route is a busy one taking motorists down to not only Wolstanton Retail Park but the A500 with motorists concerned any closures will lead to build-ups on Basford bank and Porthill bank.

Today and the route was open but signs remain up, which could signal some works could be carried out overnight. Those works aren't the only ones to watch out for.
