Robert Carlyle has insisted he will not be baring all in the new Full Monty TV series, joking that he’s still traumatised from the first time around.

The actor is reprising the role of steelworker Gaz in a new series, which comes 26 years after the hit movie about a group of unemployed men who come up with a striptease act.

But he said on This Morning that he'll be keeping his clothes on this time around.

"So you won’t be getting naked?" asked host Alison Hammond.

"No, certainly not," the actor replied.

When Hammond asked if shooting the film had been nerve-wracking, Carlyle said it was a “total nightmare”.

"That scene took two and a half days to film and the people that were in the audience, they were people from the local community, they were turning up to see the real deal," he explained.

"So that last moment…"

Presenter Dermot O’Leary chimed in to jokingly suggest it had been traumatic.

Chuckling, Carlyle agreed: “Yes! Look at me, I am still traumatised.”

The film - which also starred Mark Addy, William Snape, Steve Huison, Tom Wilkinson, Paul Barber and Hugo Speer - was released in 1997 and it became a huge hit.

Carlyle told Hammond and O'Leary that he'd embraced the prospect of going back to it and reuniting with the rest of the cast, describing The Full Monty as a “big warm shadow” that had followed him through his career.

The Full Monty will be available to stream on Disney+ on Wednesday, 14 June.
