Robert Pattinson Reveals Boozy Twilight Press Tour

R-Patz dealt with the pressure of being a megastar by knocking back alcohol and talking “total gibberish” during interviews for the Twilight movies.

Robert, 30, catapulted to fame when he was cast as the undead heartthrob Edward Cullen in the vampire movie alongside Kristen Stewart.

Millions of teenagers fell madly in love with the British actor and asked how he coped with the media circus that engulfed him, he told the Sunday Times Culture Magazine: “I just got wasted the whole time.”

Robert also had a clever way of getting out of doing interviews and used his acting skills to fool his movie bosses into thinking he was a “liability” in the hope his hours would be cut.

He said: “You feel insane, but I think the studio cut my days because I started speaking total gibberish. Just be a total liability."

Since Twilight, Robert has focused on ridding his fantasy persona and starring in movies based in reality, such as indie biopic Life, about 50s icon James Dean, and Cosmopolis, in which he plays a 28-year-old billionaire whose empire is crumbling around him.

It’s fair to say Robert stands out from his peers because so many of them have chosen to jump on the Marvel and DC Comics bandwagon by laying claim to a superhero alter-ego, something which he bemoans.

Robert - who is engaged to singer FKA Twigs - dreams of the golden era of action movies and would love to star in a film like Nicholas Cage’s 1997 Con Air.

He added: "Your only option is to do a superhero movie. You can do a superhero, or you can do indies. That’s it! You cannot even do Nicolas Cage movies. You can’t even do ‘Con Air’. I would love to do Con Air.”
