Robin Roberts had a special moment before seeing her bride, Amber Laign, on their wedding day

On Thursday, the Good Morning America anchor shared a new photo from her recent wedding to her longtime partner Laign. The photo featured Roberts smiling with her hands pressed together as Laign walked toward her. Both women wore their wedding gowns, and for the 62-year-old, it marked a moment of calm before she exchanged vows with her bride.

“Peaceful moment right before the ‘first look.’ #ThankfulThursday🙏🏾,” she captioned the photo, which was taken by wedding photographer Chris J. Evans.

During an August episode of Good Morning America, Roberts shared with her co-hosts that she and Laign decided to do their final wedding dress fittings separately. "The final fitting we're going to do separately cause I want us to each see each other in the final dress for the first time on the wedding [day]," she explained.

Roberts and Laign exchanged their vows at their home garden on Sept. 8 before celebrating with their 250 guests at a reception held at Farmington Gardens, in Farmington, Conn. The couple's wedding planner JoAnn Gregoli exclusively told PEOPLE the brides wanted their celebration to be as eco-friendly as possible. As a result, they opted for plantable save the dates and invitation, and utilized greenery instead of cut flowers where possible.

While the couple exchanged vows in front of their family, their reception was a star-studded affair. Guests included Roberts’ Good Morning America co-stars George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion, Lara Spencer, Michael Strahan, David Muir, Gio Benetiz, Dr. Jen Ashton and Tory Johnson. Additional celebrity guests included Gayle King and tennis legend Billie Jean King.

According to Gregoli, she had to consult weatherman Champion, 62, when the couple’s outdoor ceremony was almost derailed by rain clouds.

“The radar was showing rain, and Robin and Amber really wanted it outside, in front of the [tribute bench to Roberts' mother],” she said. “Thankfully, we consulted with [weatherman] Sam Champion, who was a guest, who helped guide us in making the decision of what time to actually begin the ceremony. We literally had to adjust that timing a few times during the day to make sure the ceremony could be held outside.”

She continued, “In the end, Sam was right and we had that window of time, timed perfectly as the sun shown upon them as they walked down the aisle. An hour after that, it was pouring.”

On Sept. 10, Roberts shared two photos of herself and Laign hand-in-hand on their wedding day on her Instagram. In the caption, she called the ceremony “magical.”

“An intimate, magical wedding ceremony in our backyard followed by a joyous reception…ohhhh the dancing!!” she wrote. “We are immensely grateful to all for making it a day and a night to remember. Honeymoon here we come!”
