'Rock Till We Drop': What is it about? Who are the celebrity mentors? All you need to know

Proving it's never too late to follow your dreams, Rock Till We Drop is a brand new music contest that sees bands of musicians aged 64 and over compete at the Isle of Wight Festival.

Martin Kemp and Lady Leshurr both audition and coach up veteran rockers to make a supergroup each of elderly performers, who'll go head to head on the main stage at the festival.

The four-part series begins tonight (Tuesday) at 9pm on BBC Two and continues weekly.

Music stars Martin Kemp and Lady Leshurr are signed up to choose and mentor each band, going up agains each other to find the winning group by the end of the series.

MOBO award-winning grime artist Lady Leshurr said: "In my experience, I have found the music industry to be ageist at times; I have been asked to make my age younger, suggesting I don’t have a lot of time left if I want to make it, which is quite upsetting and frustrating because talent doesn’t have a time limit!"

Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp added: "I loved this the moment I first heard the idea; it’s the stuff dreams are made of, just when you think life has passed you by, an opportunity like this comes along.

"To be able to give these bands a moment they have always dreamed of on one of the biggest festival stages in Britain was something I will never forget."

Martin Kemp and Lady Leshurr will audition superstar wannabes for their bands - the only requirement is, they must be 64 or older.

Their bands will then have just six weeks to prepare for the performance of a lifetime on the main stage at the Isle of Wight Festival, where the crowd will choose who the winning band is.

Lady Leshurr's band is made up of 77-year-old singer Bette, guitarist Martin, 67, bass player Carol, 72, back up guitar and bass player Brian, 65, 68-year-old Steve on keyboard, and drummer Arty, 73.

Martin Kemp's band are co-lead singers Jimmy, 74 and Carmen, 64, guitarist Leburn, 64, bass player Richard, 72, 80-year-old Eileen on keyboard, drummer Roy, 95, and replacement drummer Barry, 79.

Rock Till We Drop begins tonight (Tuesday) at 9pm on BBC Two.
