Tesco customers doing the weekly shop may have got a shock in the aisles if they headed to the Bishop's Stortford branch on Thursday.

Sir Rod Stewart was amongst those browsing the shelves as he made a rare appearance at the supermarket to celebrate them stocking his own tipple, Wolfie's Whisky.

Stewart brightened up a dull January day in an electric blue coat and colourful scarf, with shoppers sure to recognise his trademark spiky blond locks.

The Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? singer launched his whisky in May 2023, and now fans can add a bottle to their trolley in more than 400 Tesco stores.

Wolfie's description reads: "With subtle nods to Americana, Wolfie's channels the rock 'n' roll spirit inspired by Rod's wildest days. Whilst also embracing his 'Cockney Scotsman' persona and paying homage to his Scottish heritage."

Maggie May crooner Stewart admired the display of Wolfie's in his local Tesco, before adding a couple of bottles to his basket and heading for the checkout.

He said: "It’s just wonderful to see Wolfie’s in pride of place here at Tesco. I’m delighted to think it’s even easier for people to pick up a bottle of Wolfie’s and it’s been lovely speaking to the team here in Bishop’s Stortford to see what they thought of it.

"They certainly have a taste for the good stuff."

Although Stewart is a Londoner, he's well known for his pride in his Scottish ancestry which inspired the whisky, and hit the headlines with a very generous donation to the Gleneagles Hotel after staying there for New Year with wife Penny Lancaster and their two sons.

He gave the staff a £10,000 tip, telling The Daily Record: "I’ve been lucky enough to stay in some of the top hotels in the world and the service at Gleneagles is second to none.

"The staff do a terrific job at a very hectic time of the year and deserve every penny. It’s Scottish hospitality at its very best.

"I advised the boys and girls at Gleneagles to invest the money wisely: stick the lot on Scotland to win the Euros."
