Romney 'Victory' Website Briefly Goes Live

The existence of a "transition" website created for Mitt Romney in the event he had won the presidential election briefly went live on Wednesday.

The website Political Wire has posted screenshots taken before the beaten candidate's page - designed to usher in a Romney presidency - was removed from the web.

Mr Romney lost the election on Tuesday to President Barack Obama.

The site, bearing a banner of "The Office of the President-elect", carries the slogan: "Smaller, Simpler, Smarter: Believe in America."

One of the screen shots shows a photograph of Mr Romney against an American flag with a quote attributed to "President-elect Mitt Romney"

It reads: "The 21st century can and must be an American century. The torch America carries is one of decency and hope."

Other images show a link to apply for jobs in the administration, an invitation to the inauguration on January 21 and a picture of Mr Romney's running mate, Congressman Paul Ryan.

Mr Ryan is described as the "Vice President-elect".

"President-elect Romney is working closely with his transition team to put together his administration to ensure a smooth transfer of power on January 20th, 2013 and get to work for the American people," the website says.

The screenshots were taken nearly a full day after Mr Romney conceded the election.
