Ronan Keating makes major announcement as he steps back to 'focus on music and family'

After seven years of entertaining the Magic FM breakfast audience alongside Harriet Scott, Ronan Keating has announced his departure from the station.

The Boyzone star made an emotional statement during Thursday morning's show. Ronan admitted: "I've had a hell of a time, it is time for me to hang up my headphones," and told listeners that he would be staying on air until the end of July.

Being visibly moved by his decision, he added: "I've had the best time. I've learnt so much. I will miss you all." Reacting to the influx of messages coming in from adoring fans, Keating confessed to co-host Harriet "I don't know if I can read any of them."

One distraught follower expressed their sentiment stating: "Magic FM radio breakfast won't be the same! I'm a huge Boyzone and Ronan Keating fan! Good luck with what's next and enjoy family mornings you will be missed in my morning chaos!!!"

Keating earned his spot in many fans' morning routines when he joined Magic's line-up back in September 2017, taking over the 6 am to 10 am slot, reports OK!

Before the surprise announcement, he sparked curiosity amongst his followers on Instagram by sharing: "TUNE INTO @MAGICFM NOW. BIG ANNOUNCEMENT."

Although Keating didn't share the reasoning behind his departure, recent months have seen him delve deep into his music projects, including touring in Germany. He also has two young children at home, and likely keen to spend more quality time with.

Elsewhere, Ronan has taken to social media with a cryptic message about his wife Storm, alongside an image of a new tattoo dedicated to her. His post read: "For you my warrior today and every day. My Stormy. A challenge ahead but your strength blows my mind. With you every step. Love you baby."

The nature of the "challenge" remains unclear, leaving fans expressing their concern and sending well-wishes online. BBC Radio 2's Zoe Ball showed her support by commenting: "Sending you all love and strength." Natalie Bassingthwaighte, who worked with Ronan on X Factor Australia, also reached out saying: "Sending you both so much love. Hope she is ok."

A fan shared their sentiments, posting: "Sending love with whatever is going on." The samurai warrior tattoo garnered positive reactions, with one follower remarking: "Beautiful tattoo [Ronan] - hope [Storm] is ok."

Ronan and Storm have been married since 2015 and have two children together, Cooper, six, and Coco Knox, four. Ronan is also father to three children from his previous marriage to Yvonne Connolly - Jack, 25, Missy, 23, and Ali, 18.
