Rory McIlroy Calls Off Divorce: Golfer and Wife Erica Reveal They’ve ‘Resolved Our Differences’
The couple have called off their divorce after filing on May 11, in Palm Beach, Fla.
Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll have decided not to end their 7-year marriage.
McIlroy filed for divorce on May 13, PEOPLE confirmed. However, on Tuesday, June 11, McIlroy's attorney filed a notice of voluntary dismissal on behalf of the golfer in Palm Beach County Court.
“There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game," McIlroy told The Guardian on Tuesday.
“Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
Stoll and McIlroy share one daughter, Poppy, who they welcomed in 2020.

During the 2024 U.S. Open in Pinehurst, N.C. on Tuesday, McIlroy also spoke about his career and his goals to score a fifth major. He previously won the 2011 U.S. Open, 2012 PGA Championship, 2014 Open Championship and 2014 PGA Championship.
“I’m really proud of my body of work over the past 15 years and everything that I have achieved, whether it be season-long titles or individual tournaments or majors,” McIlroy said. “Obviously getting my hands on a fifth major has taken quite a while, but I’m more confident than ever that I’m right there, that I’m as close as I’ve ever been.”
Days after the couple initially filed last month, both ditched their wedding rings. He was seen without his wedding ring while competing in the PGA Championship on May 16 at the Valhalla Golf Club. And that same day, Stoll was spotted without her engagement ring during an outing in Jupiter, Fla.
The couple married on April 22, 2017, during a lavish ceremony at Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland, with a guestlist of several A-list celebrities — from Stevie Wonder to actor Jamie Dornan, according to E! News.
The pair first met in 2012 at the Ryder Cup where Stoll, a former employee of the PGA of America, had been working as a transport official. After a time zone mixup, McIlroy nearly missed his tee time, but with Stoll's help, he got a police escort to the course in Medinah, Ill.
However, the couple didn't become romantically involved until years later in 2014. McIlroy had been dating tennis player Caroline Wozniacki when he first met Stoll. McIlroy and Wozniacki got engaged on New Year's Eve in 2013, but he broke things off a few months later.

Once Stoll and McIlroy started dating in late 2014, they kept their relationship quiet and didn't make many public appearances as a couple at the start. Throughout their relationship, Stoll had been a supportive figure for McIlroy at his tournaments, from caddying for him at the 2023 Masters Par 3 contest to cheering him on at the Ryder Cup in Italy.
