Rosie Ramsey was spotted dishing out fish finger sandwiches on Whitley Bay promenade this week, teaming up with Greggs to promote a brand-new trial which starts this Thursday (May 23).

Announcing their new menu, Greggs set up a mobile fish and chip shop by the seaside, named 'Finest Catch', with South Shields-born presenter Rosie handing out fresh sandwiches to members of the public. The pop up came as an ode to one of Britain's most nostalgic and wholesome dinnertime treats, as customers queued to see what all the fuss is about.

A video uploaded to Instagram by Greggs was captioned: "In honour of the Fish Finger Sandwich launching in selected shops in the North East, we put @rosemarinoramsey and her northern knowledge to the test in Fact or Fishy," and showed the star dressed in a Greggs uniform and serving curious members of the public.

The team then went on to quiz Rosie on her North East knowledge, asking where Sam Fender went to school, which city has the most Greggs and if the establishment was originally called Gregory's - which she passed with flying colours.

And fans of the bakery were quick to the comments section to share their opinions. One wrote: "Gotta love a Fish Finger Sarnie ain’t ya!" while a second added: "Oh yes," with a love-heart eyes emoji. A third went on: "We need these in every town!!!!" while a fourth penned: "Looks fishy but delicious."

It comes as Greggs trials Fish Finger Sandwiches and Fish Finger Wraps across ten North East stores from Thursday, with participating outlets spanning Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead and County Durham. The new fish finger sandwich is made up of cod fillet, ketchup or mayonnaise and iceberg lettuce, wrapped in a soft white roll.

The wrap meanwhile also contains cod fillet, mayonnaise, mixed leaves and cucumber, wrapped in a soft tortilla. Both products will be available for purchase as part of Greggs' hot sandwich meal deal, with punters picking up a sandwich or wrap alongside southern fried wedges or a side salad, and any cold drink for £4.95.

  1. Gateshead, G109 Trinity Square

  2. Longbenton, Quorum Retail Parade

  3. Washington, U3B Peel Retail Park
