Sheila McCann

Sheila McCann died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 28, aged 64 years.

She grew up in Rawtenstall as one of eight siblings including sisters Jo and Cath and brothers Andrew, Tony, Brendan, Martin and Micheal.

She worked as a machinist at Newchurch Boot Co Ltd based at Holmes Shed, Rawtenstall.

Sheila enjoyed brisk walks taking in the scenery of the Rossendale Valley, she had a passion for baking and was a regular listener to her favourite Soul and Motown classics. Most of all she loved her family and leaves behind her husband John, sons Joseph and Patrick, their spouses Nicola and Francesca and grandsons Harry and Finn.

Sheila’s funeral will be held at St James the Less Church, Rawtenstall on Friday, April 19, at 10am.

The family prefer that donations are made to Rossendale Hospice instead of sending flowers if anyone wishes to off condolences. Donations can be made online:- www.fredhamer.co.uk (tributes and donations).

Andrew Ives

It IS with deep sadness we announce the death of Andrew Ives who passed away on March 24, aged 60 after a courageous battle with cancer. He lived in Loch Maben.

Andrew was the son of the late Marie and Bob Ives, he grew up on Carr Mount, Rawtenstall.

He left Rossendale some years ago for pastures new but returned often to support his beloved Burnley F.C., never missing a home match and to visit family and friends.

After leaving school Andrew became an apprentice plumber with E.W. and J. Kershaw, Rawtenstall and once qualified, continued in his profession throughout his working life.

He was a keen fisherman and birdwatcher.

Andrew leaves his beloved daughters Marianne and Alice. Brother Bobby Ives, sister in law Shona, sisters Catherine Wallwork, Susan McLoughlin and Anne Hilton and their husbands, Robert, John, Eddie, also nieces and nephews and many friends.

Those wishing to pay their last respects, please join us on Friday, April 12 when a celebration of Andrew’s life will take place at Hamer’s Funeral Home in Rawtenstall at 1.30pm, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematorium at 2.20pm.

Stuart McCloskey

Stuart McCloskey, of Newchurch Road, Rawtenstall, passed away on March 24, aged 76 years.

He started his career in sales, becoming managing director of a company and then later he owned a shop in Rawtenstall - Discount Printer Supplies before he retired. Stuart enjoyed reading, gardening, spending time with family and grandchildren. He loved visiting historic sites, castles and abbeys.

Stuart was chairman of the Lea Bank Trust - saving the school from being knocked down and the forest from being developed on.

Married for 50 years to his late wife Eileen, Stuart leaves his son Richard, daughter Kate, grandchildren Hannah, Ivy and Edward.

A service will be held on Thursday, April 11 at East Lancashire Crematorium at 1.30pm.

Joyce MacDonald

Joyce MacDonald formerly Ireland (Nee Pilling), of Meadows Avenue, Haslingden, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, March 24, aged 84.

Born in Rossendale Joyce grew up in Crawshawbooth with her two brothers and six sisters.

On leaving school Joyce worked at David Whiteheads for a number of years where she was an avid member of their Social Society who put on a yearly ‘Revue’s’.

Joyce was a popular member of the cast, one Christmas show she particularly remembered was ‘Winterlude’ …….1957. Mum to Steven, Christine, Jackie and Carl, grandmother to nine grandchildren and great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren.

Joyce previously enjoyed walking with her dog Penny, gardening, reading, shopping. She particularly loved Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary.

The funeral will be held on Friday, April 12, leaving the Chapel of Rest on Pleasant Street, Haslingden at 9.45am arriving at Accrington Crematorium at 10.20am.
