Royal Caribbean suspends all cruises to beach destination for the rest of May

Royal Caribbean has announced the suspension of all its May cruises to the popular destination of Labadee in Haiti, citing ongoing unrest as the reason for the decision.

The cruise giant had previously paused voyages to its private resort in mid-March and has now decided to extend this suspension through to the end of May.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said: "We have suspended all visits to Labadee fleetwide through May 2024, and we continue to monitor the situation with our Global Security and Intelligence team."

The cancellation will impact several sailings, with ships including Allure of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, Wonder of the Seas, and Symphony of the Seas originally scheduled to dock at Labadee during May.

Passengers affected by the change may be redirected to another destination, such as Royal Caribbean's exclusive Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas, or they might enjoy an additional day at sea, reports the Express.

Despite being a private resort for Royal Caribbean guests, the Haitian government retains sovereignty over Labadee.

The UK Foreign Office has issued a stark warning advising against all travel to Haiti, stating: "There are currently no British consular officials in Haiti and our ability to provide consular assistance is severely limited and cannot be delivered in person in Haiti."

Giving further safety advice, they added: "If you choose to travel to or stay in Haiti against FCDO advice, try to avoid all crowds and public events, and take appropriate security precautions."
