RSPCA makes special appeal to find three cats forever homes after months of waiting

A SPECIAL appeal has been made to find ‘loving’ homes for three neglected cats that have been waiting for more than 270 days to be adopted.

The RSPCA rehomes thousands of cats each year, but sadly, three poor felines at Warrington, Halton & St Helens Animal Centre have been overlooked by potential adopters for months.

Now, the animal centre in Warrington is making a special appeal for homes for the trio - Maggie, Shadow and Tom - who have collectively been waiting 273 days to start new lives in loving homes.

Maggie is a two-and-a-half-year-old black domestic shorthair cat. She came into the branch’s care in February 2024, after being found in need of care, in a garden with two other cats.

She was very underweight and looked to be suffering from fur loss.

Maggie bounced back to health in RSPCA care, but despite her gentle nature, she has been waiting for more than 126 days to be chosen by adopters.

She is currently in a lovely foster home where she is a firm favourite as she loves to be fussed and seems to enjoy being around people, but she is also an independent lady who is happy to do her own thing at times.

The animal shelter has suggested that she would be best suited to a quiet family, possibly with older children as she has a quiet nature and would make an excellent companion for someone who is looking for company or a friendly face to come home to at the end of the day.

Meanwhile, gentle, easy-going cat Tom loves being around people and would make a great companion or addition to a family. He would be perfect to come home to and see a friendly face at the end of the day.

Sadly, the six-year-old black domestic shorthair has been waiting for 64 days so far for a new home.  Tom enjoys play time, exploring a safe garden, who could live with a family.

And last but not least, Shadow, who bounced back quickly from a tail injury caused by a bite from another cat, after she arrived in the charity’s care in April.

Since then, the four-year-old puss has spent time in a foster home where she has come out of her shell and is happy to meet people and bump them with her head to invite them to give her a fuss.

She has been waiting for 83 days already to be adopted, despite the fact she is a very chatty cat who loves to fall asleep on a lap.

Susanne Fearnley, animal care support manager at RSPCA Warrington, Halton and St Helens Branch commented on the special appeal, saying: “Every day we see rescue animals bouncing back to health in our care, and we get to know their personalities.

“The icing on the cake is when we see them chosen by a new person or family and adopted into the loving home they deserve - so it’s sad for us to see Maggie, Tom and Shadow still sitting and waiting for their forever home.

“We are concerned that these cats might be being overlooked due to their colour, as sadly, it takes longer for black cats to be rehomed than others, which is such a shame as every animal has their own individual personality and a lot of love and affection to give. We see people come to our rehoming centre, they pet Maggie, Tom and Shadow, but then seem to move on.

“These cats are all yet to be chosen, but we hope they won’t have to wait too much longer before they’re adopted and have a lovely comfy sofa in a new home to call their own.”
