Ruben Amorim makes promise about Sporting CP future as Liverpool speculation continues

Ruben Amorim has again sidestepped questions about his future after Sporting CP moved a step closer to winning the Liga Portugal title.

Sporting ran out 3-0 winners over Vitoria de Guimaraes on Sunday night to move 10 points clear of second-placed Benfica, who do boast a game in-hand with four matches left to play. Consequently, Amorim's side need, at most, six points from their remaining games to be crowned champions.

With Jurgen Klopp confirmed to be stepping down as Liverpool manager in the summer, Amorim continues to be heavily linked with a move to Anfield. And after former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso decided to stay put at Bayer Leverkusen, the Portuguese has emerged as the frontrunner.

However, with Sporting focused on their efforts to win a Portuguese double, having also booked their place in next month’s Taca de Portugal final, Amorim has continued to give little away about his future despite the increasing speculation.

And that was the same on Sunday night when speaking to reporters after Sporting’s latest victory. "I have a contract. Changing the paradigm we are changing, but it's something longer in history,” the 39-year-old said, as quoted by O Jogo. “It would be nice not to have that difference between championships.

“Nothing has changed. I'll be here next week. The main objective is to become champion as quickly as possible.”

Meanwhile, Sporting fans are continuing to bring banners to their matches, pleading with Amroim to stay put at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

The latest banner unveiled against Vitoria de Guimaraes read, 'We will walk together Amorim 2050'.

Amroim's current contract with Sporting expires in 2026.
