Russia Releases Inconsistent Imagery It Says Shows Truck That Exploded on Crimea Bridge

Russian authorities have released images of what they described as the inspection of the truck that exploded on the Kerch Bridge in Crimea on October 8, and an X-ray of the truck showing its cargo. However, the two trucks in the images do not match.

The video and still image of the X-ray were described as “the inspection of a truck carrying cargo with an explosive device and a photo of the contents of the truck.”

However, the two trucks are different. The X-ray shows a truck with fewer wheels, and also with its spare wheel in a different place to the truck in the video.

The Federal Security Service has blamed the blast on what it called the “Main Intelligence Directorate” of Ukraine’s defense ministry.

The Federal Security Service said an explosive device was camouflaged in “rolls with a construction polyethylene film on 22 pallets with a total weight of 22,770 kilograms”. The cargo was shipped from Odesa to the Bulgarian city of Ruse in early August, the service said.

Eight people have been arrested, the service said, “five Russian citizens and three citizens of Ukraine and Armenia.”

Kyiv officials have dismissed Russia’s investigation as “nonsense”, according to Suspilne News. Credit: Federal Security Service via Storyful
