Russian Deputy Defense Minister Detained on Bribery Charge

Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov was “sent to a pretrial detention center” on Wednesday, April 24, after he was arrested on suspicion of accepting a bribe.

Ivanov was charged with “receiving a bribe on an especially large scale,” according to the Moscow Courts service.

At Basmanny District Court of Moscow on Wednesday, it was decided Ivanov would be sent to a pretrial detention center, where he would remain until June 23.

This footage shows Ivanov in military uniform during his court appearance.

He could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to 70 times the amount of the bribe he allegedly received, according to the Russian news agency Interfax.

Ivanov was arrested at his workplace on Tuesday, April 23, according to TASS.
