Lavrov Attends Unveiling of Pushkin Statue in Venezuela

Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, helped unveil a bust of Russian writer Alexander Pushkin in Caracas, Venezuela, on February 20, during his visit to Latin America.

“The poet Pushkin was a contemporary of Venezuela’s eminent national activist, military leader and politician, Simon Bolivar. Both men believed in the same ideals, that is, freedom, equality, brotherhood, and they served their people loyally,” Lavrov said in his speech.

Venezuela’s foreign minister, Yvan Gil, said he also participated in the ceremony.

Before his visit to Venezuela, Lavrov with Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez on February 19. He later met in Caracas with Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro on February 20.
