Russians Claim Missile Strike on Ukrainian Position at Antonovsky Bridge

Russian military forces launched an Iskander short-range ballistic missile at the Antonovsky Bridge across the Dnipro River on Friday, June 30, the Russian-installed governor of Kherson said.

Vladimir Saldo shared a video of the strike on his Telegram channel, writing that the southern end of the destroyed bridge where Ukrainian forces were sheltering was hit. He claimed that 30 soldiers were killed and another dozen injured. None of the claims have been verified.

One Russian military blogger, writing earlier on the social media website VK, complained that commanders were pulling Russian forces “into open areas under enemy [Ukrainian] fire,” resulting in a number of casualties.

The blogger wrote that Russian troops were requesting airstrikes on the bridge’s foundations.

The Antonovsky Bridge was struck multiple times last year and eventually destroyed in November, and Ukrainian forces have recently been trying to establish a bridgehead on the riverbank, according to Russian military bloggers. Credit: Vladimir Saldo via Storyful
