Russians Respond to Reports of Alleged War Crimes in Bucha

People questioned by Current Time across multiple cities in Russia expressed mixed reactions to allegations that Russian forces committed war crimes in the Ukrainian town of Bucha.

Graphic footage released by the Ukrainian military on April 2 showed bodies strewn across the streets of Bucha, after Russian forces pulled back from areas near Kyiv.

Russia denied Ukrainian allegations that it had killed civilians in Bucha, describing footage and photographs of dead bodies as a “provocation” and a “staged performance” by Kyiv, according to media reports.

Current Time asked people in several cities across Russia: “Did you hear about the Ukrainian city of Bucha?”

Some echoed the Kremlin’s line that images of atrocities were “fake.” Others expressed shock and called the killings “horrible,” while others did not wish to share their opinion. Credit: Current Time via Storyful
