Ryan Reynolds has a funny birthday message for Zayn

Their leading ladies, Gigi Hadid and Blake Lively, might be close friends, but little did we know that Ryan Reynolds and Zayn Malik had a bromance going on behind closed doors.

Celebrating his 25th birthday over the weekend, Zayn shared a video he received from the Deadpool actor, dressed up as his his superhero character, which Reynolds begins by saying: "Zayn, it's Wade. Don't hang up."

(For non-Deadpool fans, let's just quickly point out that Wade is Deadpool's real name in the Marvel franchise.)

"I just wanted to wish you a very happy birthday, again," Reynolds continued.

"I also wanted to apologise for jumping out of the cake like that, I didn't realise it was the middle of the night - I had no idea it was in the middle of your bedroom," he joked. "I want to thank your security who were very, very gentle and creative with the taser."

Reynolds concluded his video by noting that January 12 – Zayn's birthday – is also the birthday of Tim Horton, the late Canadian hockey player.

"You share your birthday with a very special Canadian, who is very dear to my heart," he added.

Zayn, who recently dressed up as a superhero himself to impress his girlfriend Gigi Hadid on Halloween, wasn't the only one to appreciate the birthday message.

The model commented on the post: "Best f!#%n birthday surprise ever!!!"

And Gigi, who's been going out with Zayn for around two years now, posted her own message to the singer to celebrate his birthday, captioning snaps of the pair: "Love this man more than I could ever put into words, & am inspired by his drive to be and do better everyday.

"Cheers to YOUR YEAR my @zayn - happiest happiest birthday & 25th year of life !! I'm proud to be by your side x"
