Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have shown their class once again with a message sent to Swansea City head coach Luke Williams.

The Hollywood duo’s Wrexham fought it out with Williams’ Notts County the season before last in an epic scrap for National League promotion.

It was a proper ding-dong between the two sides, who went toe to toe for the majority of the campaign.

The Reds clinched the one and only automatic promotion spot, with the Magpies having to settle for a nerve-wracking play-off final spot - which they won on penalties against Chesterfield.

Despite the rivalry being intense between Wrexham and County, it never spilled over - if anything, the acting duo were extremely gracious in victory and encouraged their foes to follow their lead to League Two.

Last year Williams explained: “We were in this incredible rivalry, and there were huge stakes for both clubs.

“They never got malicious with anything or tried to derail us, if anything they encouraged us. The title race was immense, it became a pressure pot. At one point during the season we won 12 out of 13 and were still only one point clear at the top.

“We had this incredible away game at the end of the season which was kind of winner takes all. We missed a penalty in the last 10 seconds, then the guy who missed the penalty scores the winner at Wembley in the promotion final.

“When I was on the phone to Rob and Ryan they said if they had pitched the Notts County season to Disney they would have told them to dial it down a bit.

“It was incredible from start to finish and it culminated with both teams being promoted, I don’t think you can get a better documentary to be honest.”

Williams is now Swansea manager of course, and revealed this week that he sent Reynolds and McElhenney a message of his own after the Reds secured back-to-back promotions to League One last month.

“They messaged me, but really heartfelt messages about congratulating me and the team for getting promoted,” he told the BBC.

“I’ve been on the documentary as well and then I messaged them when they got promoted this season, and they both message me back that day.

“They are so class. If you handle yourself like that, their not even trying to pretend, they are like ‘no, we know we are putting absolutely everything into this to try to win and take no chances’. But they still show the respect to you. It’s difficult to feel anything but... I’m happy for them.”
