Dundee United are set to sign Ryan Strain from St Mirren.

The Premiership new boys have agreed a two-year deal with the Australian international, with the right-back a free agent after he left St Mirren in the summer. The 27-year-old has just returned from his international commitments with Australia and will become Jim Goodwin's latest summer addition. Strain’s season was wrecked by injury last year but up to that point had been a top performer with the Buddies.

United have already signed Will Ferry, Dave Richards and Vicko Sevelj in recent days. They are also waiting on a work permit for winger Kristijan Trapanovski as their squad shapes up for their return to the Premiership. It's expected Strain will compete with Liam Grimshaw, who started most of their games at right-back last season. Teenager Miller Thompson filled in there when Grimshaw wasn't towards the end of the season after Kieran Freeman's February move to Ireland.
