Ryanair passengers vow to 'boycott' after airline 'shows true colours'

Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary has sparked a boycott after offering to fly migrants to Rwanda. The boss of the airline, which is rivalled by the likes of TUI, Easyjet, British Airways, Jet2 and more, has come under fire for his comments.

In an interview with Bloomberg yesterday, CEO Mr O’Leary said he would “happily” do the flights provided he had available planes. He said: “If it was the winter schedule and we had spare aircraft sitting around and if the government were looking for additional deportation flights or any other flights, we would happily quote for the business.”

Twitter/X user Jason responded: "If anything is going to make Rwanda seem like a safe, welcoming environment, it’s spending time on a Ryanair flight beforehand." Parody said: "I wish Ryanair had been able to provide flights to Rwanda like their CEO wanted, as the thought of being forced to take a Ryanair flight would be much more of a deterrent than just being deported."

Chris said: "Flown with god knows how many other airlines around the world, but I've never been on a Ryanair Flight, and won't in future. Michael O'Leary's thinks his target customers will celebrate his decision to offer Rwanda deportation flights. Profit over everything. Hope this backfires!"

Jason raged: "Michael O'Leary gives everyone a reason to NEVER use Ryanair again. With any luck, taking a few fascist scapegoats to Rwanda will bankrupt them & allow an airline that treats its customers with respect rather than disdain, to take it's place."

"The evil face of unbridled capitalism Profit before people, morals, principles & possibly international law. The UNHRC should ban all Ryan Air flights as complicit in breaching the convention if they transport anyone to Rwanda," another fumed.

Scottish journalist Neil Drysdale said: “I’ve never travelled by Ryanair. Never liked Michael O’Leary’s schtick as the “small operator” battling the big airlines. And now, he is showing his true colours by signing up to the Rwandan deportation scheme!”
