Rylan Clark has been many fans' favourite to take over the This Morning presenting role on a permanent basis – but the former X Factor contestant has now ruled himself out of the running.

Rylan has hosted This Morning multiple times as a guest presenter and it has been reported that Cat Deeley wanted to take over as permanent host alongside Rylan. In a new interview with Yahoo!, however, Rylan has explained why the role isn't for him on a full-time basis.

"I worked at This Morning for what, six years? And then I left and I got used to sleeping in and now it's so nice to be able to just pop in for a week, see everyone, have a lovely time, give away some money and then go home," Rylan said.

Recently, Rylan made viewers and co-host Rochelle Humes laugh with a rare comment about his divorce during a money-saving segment on This Morning.

'Coupon Kid' Jordon Cox presented Rylan with a money-saving ring, quipping: "I know we haven't known each other long, but I have this." He then got down on one knee and presented the former Strictly: It Takes Two host with a ring box.

Rylan then joked: "Not again without a pre-nup."

Rylan divorced husband Dan Neal in 2021 after six years together. He later opened up about how the divorce triggered his mental health struggles.

"I just remember going to sleep at night after doing nothing all day, living at my mum's, frightened to leave the house, didn't want anyone to see me," Rylan said.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 & ITVX.
