Rylan apologises for ‘scaring’ people as he admits pain of break-up

Rylan has apologised for 'scaring' fans after he disappeared from the public eye for several months following his split from his husband earlier this year.

The Strictly: It Takes Two presenter  formerly known as Rylan Clark-Neal — is back on TV and social media again after confirming in June that he and husband Dan Neal had separated following six years of marriage.

Rylan, 32, told ITV’s Lorraine: "I wasn’t good, I’m not going to lie. I think everyone knows that. You know I’m normally on telly every five minutes, I apologise after seeing my mug all the time."

But he added that the time out of the spotlight had been good for him after 10 years of fame.

He said: "I had four months off. It was needed, actually. It’s been ten years now I’ve been doing this job which is crazy, so maybe the time off is exactly what I needed. But I’m good."

Rylan joked: "I’m obviously going through a mid-life [crisis], trying to dye my hair blond, new teeth," referring to his recent veneer replacements.

But when host Lorraine Kelly assured him that fans had been 'genuinely worried' about him, Rylan said: "Sorry for scaring people."

The TV presenter — known for fronting revivals of Supermarket Sweep and Ready Steady Cook — stepped away from the spotlight around the time of the split to focus on his mental health.

He took a 10-week break from presenting his BBC Radio 2 Saturday afternoon radio show and pulled out of presenting the BBC's Eurovision live semi-final coverage in May.

He said in a statement: "I have made a number of mistakes which I deeply regret and have inevitably led to the breakdown of our marriage."
