Sabrina Carpenter and Coldplay Team Up for Surprise Performance of 'Magic' at BBC Big Weekend
Chris Martin referenced Carpenter's pop hit "Espresso" during a performance of "Fix You" at the music event
Big Weekend was full of surprises this year.
On Sunday, May 26, Sabrina Carpenter joined Coldplay for a surprise performance of the rock band's 2014 track "Magic" at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Luton, England.
"We’ve been playing this, one Big Weekend since we were basically children,” the band's frontman Chris Martin told audience before the pop star came out, per a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). “And the reason we play one Big Weekend is because without Radio 1, we would never have kept our jobs.”
He added: “What we’d like to do, to say thank you to you for being so wonderful for the whole three days is bring on a singer who’s much younger, more beautiful, more successful, better in every way, and sing a song of ours that is OK but make it really good.”
Carpenter, 25, received a warm welcome when she arrived on stage, adding her sweet lilt to the Ghost Stories song's chorus.
According to fan-posted footage on X, Martin, 47, appeared to hint at the "Nonsense" artist's guest stint by ad-libbing "Espresso" lyrics to the band's rendition of "Fix You".
During Coldplay's set, the band, which features Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion, performed a slew of hits including “Viva La Vida,” “Paradise" and "Yellow."
During Carpenter's solo performance at the festival, Barry Keoghan — whom she has been rumored to be dating since December 2023 — was seen clapping and watching her captivate the crowd.
In fan-captured footage of her set on TikTok, the "Feather" performer could be seen singing and dancing to her hit "Espresso" in an orange halter dress and white go-go boots alongside her dancers as the Saltburn star, 31, smiled and clapped along from the side-stage.
She also sang favorites like "Fast Times," "Vicious" and "because i liked a boy."

Before the event, a source confirmed to The Sun that Keoghan would be attending.
“Barry has been added to the VIP guest- list for Sunday and plans to cheer her on from the side of the stage. He couldn’t be more proud of her," they told the publication.
In addition to Carpenter and Coldplay, Vampire Weekend, Tems, Becky Hill and more performed at the music event.
