Sainsbury's issues warning to customers ahead of change to Nectar card points

Sainsbury's has announced a significant change to its Nectar scheme for eBay shoppers. In just over seven weeks, customers will no longer be able to collect or spend Nectar points directly on the eBay website or app, according to Sainsbury's.

Currently, eBay shoppers can earn one Nectar point for every £1 they spend. However, this will soon change. From September 1, to earn points on eBay, customers will need to shop through Nectar.

Customers will be able to earn two points for every £1 spent via Nectar. The new rules state that to earn Nectar points when purchasing something on eBay, customers will need to shop via Nectar.

To do this, customers will need to search for eBay on the Nectar app or website and click on the eBay website or app. A spokesperson for Nectar explained: "From 1st September, the way customers can use Nectar with eBay is changing and they can collect two points for every £1 they spend via nectar.com and the Nectar app.", reports Birmingham Live.

Nectar informed its customers: "From the 1st of September 2024, the way you collect and spend Nectar points with eBay is changing. You will no longer be able to collect or spend Nectar points directly on the eBay website or app, and your Nectar and eBay accounts will be unlinked.

"However, you will be able to collect Nectar points on your eBay transactions when you shop via Nectar. Simply search for eBay on the Nectar app or website and click out to the eBay website or app to make your purchase. Head to https://www.nectar.com/eshops to find out more."

Sainsbury's competitors are major UK retailers such as Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, and Lidl, along with Aldi, Marks & Spencer (M&S), Waitrose, Ocado, and even Iceland.
