Contracts have been exchanged on land where a developer plans to build a 150-home retirement living scheme.

The Allum Lane land, near Elstree, will be sold to Rangeford Villages subject to planning permission being granted for its “state-of-the-art” village.

Rangeford hopes to develop the site with 150 properties made up of a range of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments as well as two- and three-bedroom bungalows.

The agreement on the sale was announced by Rangeford Villages on Tuesday (June 25). Land and planning director Doug Jones said: “We are delighted to have successfully secured Elstree to add to our existing and growing portfolio of high-quality sites.

“We look forward to working with the wider consultancy team to realise these exciting plans and to introducing Rangeford’s much sought after lifestyle-focused living to the over-60 community in and around Elstree.”

The development will include a gym and spa, restaurant, coffee shop, hair and beauty salon, treatment rooms, lounge, library, and TV room.

It will also involve relocating a GP surgery with three 13 consulting rooms, four virtual consulting rooms, and a pharmacy.

Rangeford CEO Howard Nankivell said: “There continues to be a growing need for specialist retirement housing to support the UK’s ageing population and this latest acquisition is another example of Rangeford’s commitment to developing first class retirement communities, with state-of-the-art facilities, that owners will want to live and thrive in.”
