Salmonella fears prompt massive world food manufacturer to recall product

AB World Foods Ltd is recalling a number of batches of tahini after finding deadly bacteria salmonella in some packs.

The manufacturer behind major world foods brands such as Patak's, Blue Dragon and Tabasco is recalling several lines of Al'Fez Natural Tahini after salmonella was found in some batches.

The 160g jars of tahini affected are regularly sold in stores and supermarkets across the world, including Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury's.

The batch codes of recalled jars are: 3355, 4004, 4023, 4024, 4039, 4040. The best before dates on affected jars are: June 2025, July 2025 and August 2025

An AB World Foods Ltd spokesman said: "Al'Fex is taking the precautionary step of recalling the above date codes of 160g jars of Tahini sold in stores across the UK. The deciison has been taken due to a risk of possible presence of Salmonella.

"if you have one of the products detailed above, please return id to store for a full refund. You do not need a receipt."

A Food Standards Agency spokesman said: "AB World Foods Ltd is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in stores where the product was sold.

"If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
