Former glamour model Sam Fox is campaigning for the return of Page Three, saying it is family friendly.

The 56-year-old pop singer made her name posing topless for The Sun newspaper's Page Thee - which was dropped in 2015 - describing it as a celebration of the female form.

Fox told Good Morning Britain: "The things that young people are exposed to these days on the internet, I find it’s just such a shame. These young girls feel they have to perform a certain way.

She added: "Page Three was never risque - the girl next door with a smile on her face. Every family read the paper.”

"I think we should be proud of their bodies, whether they're - I think at the moment, there's a lot of pressure for young girls to look a certain way.

"And I think what's great today is the diversity, that we don't have to be skinny. We don't have to look a certain way. I think natural is the best way to be."

Host Richard Madeley asked her: "What about age? If it were to come back, would you pose again?"

Fox replied: "Well, I guess - well, Joan Collins did Playboy at 60. So maybe I might do Playboy at 60.

"I've got no qualms with that. If there's photographers and photographers, and there's a thin line that you don't cross. And I think that's why I did so well in the glamor business, because I was never tacky. There was pictures that I wouldn't do. My mum was my stylist. She was always there with me. Because I was young."

Madeley later said he had received a message from Dame Joan Collins, 89, correcting Fox that she was 49 when she posed naked for Playboy.

An exclusive poll carried out for Good Morning Britain by Survation, found 25 per cent of respondents said they would support the return of Page Three. And 43 per cent said they thought Page Three was nothing but harmless fun.

Fox revealed: “A lot of taxi drivers say they very much miss me on Page Three."

The Touch Me singer - who is about to marry fiancee Linda Olsen - also confirmed she is due to have surgery to remove a lump from her vocal chords.

The 80s pop star recently revealed she had undergone a cancer scare after doctors found the 10mm lump.

Fox told GMB: “I've got an operation on my throat coming up very very soon and I'm getting a lot of messages off people who are very worried because they're not sure whether it's sinister or not.

“So I'd just like to say to my fans out there, I'm having it done.

“As soon as I'm married I'll be getting it taken out and I'm sure everything is going to be fine.”

Fox was in a relationship with her manager Myra Stratton for 16 years before she died in 2015 aged 60.
