Sandbags Line Street in Northern Utah as Snowmelt Flooding Begins

Flood preparations were underway in northern Utah on Saturday, April 29, amid a flood watch in the area until “further notice,” the National Weather Service said.

According to KSL TV, Mayor of Garden City Mike Leonhardt said that flooding will continue to be a problem, as much of the record snowfall in the state’s mountains hasn’t melted yet.

Footage captured by Leonhardt shows sandbags lining a street in the city on Saturday afternoon.

According to local news reports, the mayor issued a state of emergency to prepare residents for the flooding around the city.

“We have about seven different locations, from south to north, in our town that we have active flooding waters coming down the mountain,” Leonhardt told local media. Credit: Mike Leonhardt via Storyful
