“Sandlot” star Tom Guiry arrested after appearing to smash a car with a dumbbell

You’re killing my windshield, Smalls!

Tom Guiry, the actor best known for playing Scotty Smalls in The Sandlot, is facing legal troubles.

The actor was arrested in South Carolina on multiple charges on June 2, according to records from the Horry County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina.

In a video obtained by TMZ, Guiry appears to toss a dumbbell onto the windshield of a white Jeep, cracking the glass on the passenger side. He then appears to walk across the street, and another video clip shows him apparently brandishing a knife as he rings a doorbell.

According to county records Guiry was arrested on charges of assault and malicious injury (damage) to personal property. He was booked on June 2 in the afternoon and released the following night.

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to the Horry County Sheriff’s Department and a representative for Guiry for comment.

Guiry was previously arrested in Houston in 2013, where he allegedly head-butted a police officer after becoming too drunk to board a flight at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Guiry made his film debut with The Sandlot in 1993. His Scotty Smalls served as the protagonist in the classic ensemble baseball comedy, which also starred Mike Vitar, Patrick Renna, Chauncey Leopardi, and Marty York as Smalls’ ball-playing buddies and Denis Leary, Karen Allen, and James Earl Jones in supporting roles. Though it wasn't a home run at the box office, the film has since become a staple of classrooms and family movie nights everywhere, and eventually spawned two direct-to-video sequels. (There was even a legacy sequel streaming series planned at one point!)

Guiry went on to star in films like Black Hawk Down, Mystic River, The Revenant, and Ang Lee’s Ride with the Devil, all in small supporting parts. He was also a series regular on the short-lived 2007 NBC drama The Black Donnellys, and appeared in episodes of shows like Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, CSI: Miami, and Elementary. His most recent credit is the 2022 crime comedy Killin Smallz, in which a group of mobsters kidnap Guiry, who plays himself.
