Sara Ramirez has filed for divorce, three years after revealing they had split from their husband.

The 'And Just Like That...' star - who identifies as non-binary and uses gender-neutral pronouns - announced in July 2021 they had separated from Ryan DeBolt and now, court documents filed to legally end their marriage shows the couple actually split more than three years before then as the separation date is listed as January 2018.

According to paperwork obtained by TMZ, irreconcilable differences was cited as the reason for the split and Sara asked to block the court's ability to award spousal support to either party because they signed a prenuptial agreement when they tied the knot in 2012.

The 'Grey's Anatomy' star announced the end of their marriage to Ryan on Instagram in July 2021.

They wrote in a now-deleted post: "Ryan and I are no longer together. We remain loving and supportive in how we are choosing to forge our new individual paths.

"Thank you for holding space around our choices and respecting our families' privacy as we navigate this process on our own terms,."

Last summer, Sara shared some self-love and positivity on their own 48th birthday.

Sharing a throwback photo, they wrote: “There is so much to say but I’m gonna keep it simple. You’re welcome.

“Happy birthday to me. May this kid continue to feel and know that they are loved beyond their gender, they are valued beyond their productivity, and they will always be held and protected by this softening blossoming adult who may or may not be bringing their killer mullet back.”

Sara also discussed finding their "possibilities for change" after coming out as non-binary.

They previously told People magazine: "There was so much for me to unlearn, and I faced my own internalised oppression.

"In this society, we often feel this pressure to live in these rigid boxes. When I stepped out of the box I had put myself in, I discovered my own possibilities for change."
