Sarah Jessica Parker has resurrected her Sex and the City character for a new project.

The actress portrayed Carrie Bradshaw on the US comedy series for over a decade, all in all appearing in six seasons and two feature films, and has now returned for a Stella Artois commercial in collaboration with non-profit organisation Water.org, which provides access to clean water across the world.

Carrie says in the advert: "I couldn't help but wonder – wasn't it obvious? You make a little change to do a lot of good."

Sarah told People of returning to Carrie: "It was peculiar in a way, but really, really fun and joyful. It was sort of like time stood still for a second and this alternate universe of that life was presented again."

Teasing the project on her Instagram account over the weekend, Sarah uploaded a video of herself in character soundtracked to the show's classic music.

She captioned it: "My old friend. She is making a brief reappearance. Partnering with a great brand and supporting a cause we all care about. More to come. X, SJ," with the video also adding at the end "#PourItForward".

Previously, the actress has described her involvement with the series as "very suffocating", referencing the tough scheduling demands of television.

She elaborated: "All of a sudden it felt like somebody was holding me hostage or something or there just were these limitations which felt very suffocating."

Elsewhere, Sex and the City creator Darren Starr has offered his take on the potential for a revival. If a reboot with the original cast was to happen, he admitted: "I'm there for that," but had reservations about a fresh remake.
