Satellite Imagery Shows System Bringing Snow to Swiss Alps and Dust to Libya
Satellite imagery captured a storm system moving over the Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday, April 23, that brought snow to mountainous areas of Europe and dust to North Africa.
Colorized satellite imagery from the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) and the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) shows a system moving over the Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday, bringing snow to the Alps in Switzerland and dust to Libya.
“Comparing these two products can help scientists locate regions of dust,” read CIRA’s post on X.
According to Switzerland’s Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology, snow was observed in the Swiss Alps on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, a dust storm cast a red glow over eastern Libya on the same day. Credit: CSU/CIRA & EUMETSAT via Storyful
