Former Ajax and AC Milan forward Marco van Basten was shocked by Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford's performance against Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final.

Rashford started the game against the Sky Blues but struggled to make an impact on proceedings. Towards the end of 90 minutes, the Englishman had to come off for Amad due to an injury sustained towards the end of the game.

As he left the pitch, Rashford received jeers from the United supporters inside Wembley, and he has been heavily criticised since for his contribution to the match. Van Basten was on punditry duty for the match in the Netherlands and he heaped further misery on the winger.

He told Ziggo Sport: "I saw Rashford play against Coventry. What was this guy doing?

"It was an unbelievable sight. [He] didn't make any runs, [he] didn't try anything on the ball, passing every ball he received straight back.

"He looks like he is playing indoor football with his buddies." Rashford has endured a poor season for United after notching 30 goals in Erik ten Hag's first campaign at Old Trafford.

This season, the 26-year-old has managed just eight goals in all competitions, and his place on the plane with England for Euro 2024 is in serious jeopardy. Recently, Rashford signed a new deal at United, which ties him to the club until 2028.

However, this has not stopped some supporters from calling for him to be sold in the summer. Earlier in the year, Rashford was reprimanded by Ten Hag after choosing to go on a night out in Belfast on the same week he missed training at Carrington through illness.
