'It's Scary Going Home': Indiana Nurses Describe Worries as They Care for COVID-19 Patients

Nurses at a Union Health Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana, have spoken of worries that stem from caring for COVID-19 patients.

“It’s scary going home,” said respiratory nurse Tracee Bourne. “I have a six-year-old daughter; that always comes into my mind when I’m coming home.”

For others, it was the fear of infection that played on their minds. “It’s the first time in my career where I could see myself in that bed … five, seven days from now, because of how virulent it is,” said Jimmy McKanna, a respiratory therapy system manager.
