A school in Worcester has revealed its new swimming academy, aimed at improving children's aquatic skills and sports talent.

King's Worcester's is set to be equipped with cutting-edge facilities, including a refitted 25-metre, six-lane heated swimming pool with diving boards.

These facilities also consist of the Fitness Suite in the School’s Keyes Building, which promises a safe learning environment.

The academy plans to launch in September and will offer specialist swimming coaching sessions to pupils.

October will see the first-ever Swimming Camp, inviting top swimmers from across the county and beyond to improve their skills.

Chris Jenkinson, newly appointed head of swimming, will oversee the academy.

Mr Jenkinson will also promote the morning swimming sessions at King’s Worcester Preparatory Schools, such as King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford.

A team of coaches will join him with their focus being on building endurance and strength, which are crucial for competitive swimming.

Mr Jenkinson said: "This is an incredible opportunity for pupils to increase their swimming ability and overall fitness.

"As well as physical training, the King’s Worcester Swimming Academy will promote mental discipline, teamwork, and goal setting.

"Regular swim meets and competitions will be organised to provide opportunities to showcase progression and gain valuable experience in a competitive setting."

The academy will also host the school’s scuba diving and water polo.

Outside school hours, the academy will be open to local clubs like Worcester Swimming Club and Worcester Crocodiles Water Polo Clubs.

Headmaster, Gareth Doodes, said: "This is an exciting time for swimming at King’s.

"We are fortunate to be the city’s only mainstream school with an on-site swimming pool.

"The investment in our coaching team and facilities will provide pupils from across the Foundation and the wider community with access to first-class swimming within the city."
