A schoolboy stabbed to death in a residential horror yesterday has been named locally.

The 14-year-old was attacked in Hainault, London and taken to hospital on Tuesday, April 30, where he was declared dead. He has now been named locally as Daniel Anjorin, and his mum is understood to be a science teacher at Holy Family Catholic School.

A message on the school's website said: "Dear Parents/Carers, It is with great sadness that I share with you the news of the death of the child of one of our staff members. Mrs Anjorin's son was taken from this life suddenly this morning on his way to school.

"Please keep Mrs Anjorin, her husband and their other children in your prayers. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen."

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The Mirror reported the boy attended the same school - Bancroft's School - as student Grace O'Malley-Kumar, who was killed in the Nottingham knife attacks.

Four others people, including two police officers, were injured in the terrifying attack and taken to hospital with stab wounds. Dramatic video emerged of a hero policewoman ending the mayhem by tasering the alleged attacker a second time before several colleagues piled on top of him.

Other footage also showed him dressed in a yellow hooded jumper brandishing the three-foot long weapon and being chased through gardens by officers, including one who shouted: "Lock your doors." One neighbour, who asked not to be named, claimed the suspected sword thug had crashed a grey transit van into a house before his rampage.

As tributes were paid to the schoolboy victim, he said: "I then heard a load of screaming and it turned out a fella who had gone to see if the bloke was OK got stabbed in the neck by the driver. The driver then got back in his car and reversed out the side of the house to drive up the back road where it all started kicking off."

Another local James Fernando, 39, told how he stood guard by the schoolboy's body after his death. He said: "I can't stop thinking about that young boy. I can't stop envisaging his face. A child's life has been lost. I was eating my breakfast when I saw the man get out of a crashed grey transit van."

"He then approached a female resident with his telephone in his hand and asked her to tell someone on the phone his location. She realised he was not in a normal state of mind. She started to run and then he pulled a sword from the back of his trousers."

Speaking from the scene on Tuesday afternoon, Met Police's Assistant Commissioner Louisa Rolfe said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the 14-year-old boy who very sadly died at the scene. We will be there to provide every possible support to them and ensure we get them the answers they need."

"We are also thinking of the two other members of public who were injured, as well as brave officers stabbed during the incident. The 36-year-old man arrested at the scene is currently in hospital, having suffered injuries when his van collided with a building. He has been arrested on suspicion of murder. At this time, given his injuries, we have been unable to interview him. We know there is speculation about his background, including police contact with him."

"Despite urgent checks of our system today we have found no trace of a prior incident involving him so far, but we will of course continue to make those enquiries. As a matter of urgency we are trying to understand exactly what happened and why."

"This was, and is, a fast-moving, complex incident and investigation, and it will take us some time to establish the facts. This will be our priority in the coming days."

"With the suspect in custody we are satisfied there is no threat to the wider community, but this is an incident which has clearly shocked everyone, and over the coming days you will see a significant police presence in this area and we will be remaining here increasing our patrols and ensuring the community are safe and supported."

"We are really keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident or has any relevant information and would ask they come forward as soon as possible."
