The Met Office has issued a rain warning for parts of Aberdeenshire and the Highlands.

The wet summer weather Scotland has been experiencing has sparked an overnight alert. Starting at 10pm Friday evening, a yellow warning for rain will come into effect until 10am Saturday morning.

The forecaster warns flooding of homes and business is possible. Spray and floods will likely make travel times longer on the road, affecting both bus and train journeys.

This evening an area of heavy and "quite persistent" rain is developing across regions of north and northeast Scotland. The downpour will continue overnight before becoming showery on Saturday morning.

The Met Office warns almost two inches (50mm) of rain could fall in around two areas. More widely, around an inch or more (20-30mm) of rain expected.

To avoid delays, the forecaster advises checking road conditions as well as bus and train timetables, amending travel plans if necessary. The warning recommends people in affected areas to check if their property is at risk of flooding and, if so, to prepare a flood plan and emergency flood kit.
