Counting will soon get underway in Scotland when the polling stations shut at 10pm tonight after millions have cast their ballots in the General Election.

It's been a long few weeks running up to the election, but the decision will soon be made in each constituency, with voters watching closely to see their local outcome.

The winners of the 59 seats in Scotland are due to be announced in the early hours of Friday, July 5, but those in the north-east will have an agonising wait to discover the results.

In 2019, the first of the five north-east seats was declared after 3am, and similar timings are expected once again this year, with the Aberdeenshire seats due well into the night, writes the Daily Record.
