Scots descending onto Munich's main train station have arrived full of ambition ahead of our crunch opener against the German's tonight.

The central station is the main transport hub in the city and thousands of Scots have arrived from various locations on the outskirts. As accommodation prices shot up following Euro 2024 qualification, many had to find other options for digs.

Derek Corbett, a welder, Gavin Vass, a security engineer, and Martin Ross, a 50-year-old fabricator, have been staying in a campsite in Augsburg. The trio, from Tain in the Highlands, caught up with the Record upon their arrival.

Derek, 62, said: "We've been staying on the outskirts after driving over in a motorhome. We've just travelled in now and we're going to catch up with the Tartan Army and have a couple of beers."

Gavin, 52, said: "The site has been fantastic. It's been a great atmosphere there, there's quite a few Scots there too.

"We've been were received by the locals too. We don't have tickets for the game but we're just going to check out the fanzone or find a decent pub. There are trains right all night so we'll get back easy enough - even if the celebrations go on through the night!"

Train service manager Goran Nateski, from Macedonia, posed up with the pair as they exchanged hats for the picture. Elsewhere Daniel Hay, an electrician from Kirkcaldy, and Ryan Fernie, a 29-year-old student also from the same town, were heading back after spending the night in Ingolstadt.

Daniel, 23, said: "It's been a crazy trip. We flew in here via Sweden, then spent a night in Munich before heading to Ingolstadt. We met some German friends through there as Kirkcaldy is a twin town with there, so there's a connection between Raith Rovers and Ingolstadt FC.

"We're back in Munich now and we've got a beer garden booked for the game. I think we've got a chance but I'll take a 1-1."

Bobby Winning and his wife Janetta, from Saltcoats, arrived in from the outskirts too. Bobby, 62, said: "We are staying in Pfaffenhofen which is about 30 minutes from here. We've just been staying at B&B's the whole way.

"We drove over through Dover. We are the only Scots out in Pfaffenhofen so we've been like celebrities there. Everyone wants a picture. It's been really good.

"On the motorway there was a lot of Scottish fans on the cars and vans too. Everyone was tooting their horns, we had the soft top down too. We're meeting out daughter here too.

"We've got tickets for the Hungary but we're going to watch from the fan zone tonight. I would take a 1-1."

Jannetta, 56, added: "I think we might be able to just sneak the win. I'm feeling optimistic."
