A Scots dad has slammed easyJet after a flight to take him and his wife to their daughter's wedding was cancelled "at the last minute".

Ian Bell was due to fly to Naples on Thursday, June 27, for daughter Stephanie's ceremony before receiving the message just after midnight to say the flight would not be departing, reports Edinburgh Live.

The couple, from Edinburgh, were left "frustrated and annoyed" after the budget airline said it was unable to offer suitable alternative flights. Worried they wouldn't make their daughter's wedding in Italy on Monday, July 1, they were forced to fork out for new flights with airline Jet2.

Ian said: "We're so frustrated and annoyed.

"My daughter Stephanie is getting married in Italy on Monday. There's about 110 of us going from Edinburgh, and at the last minute we got an email from easyJet on Thursday morning at about 12.30am to say the flight was cancelled.

"You can imagine the stress this has caused."

The family checked their luggage in on Wednesday night, and when they went to retrieve it on Thursday morning they were told by staff that seven other easyJet flights had been cancelled.

He continued: "Me and my wife, the bride's auntie and uncle and niece were all heading out on the flight along with some friends.

"Stephanie went out on Tuesday. She's pretty upset and stressed about the whole thing.

"We managed to get flights with Jet2 from Glasgow on Friday, but it's costing us about £200 for a taxi to the airport. The car hire at Naples won't refund me because I didn't cancel within 48 hours.

"We're also forking out for a night at the hotel that we didn't use. It's proven to be quite an expensive problem."

Ian and his family said they're "terrified" of missing the big day, and concerned about other wedding guests that are flying out to Naples on Sunday.

He told us: "If it was just a holiday, I might say okay and just suck it up.

"But it's a wedding. We've got friends coming out from Jacksonville, Florida, and they seem to be having an easier time getting to the wedding than us.

"EasyJet have said we can get a refund for the cancelled flights, and I can keep any receipts. It just isn't the experience that we wanted.

"We're terrified about the upcoming flights."

A spokesperson for easyJet said: "We’re very sorry that, due to the impact of air traffic control restrictions caused by adverse weather yesterday which meant this flight was unable to operate and no suitable alternative flights were available, we had to cancel this customer's holiday at short notice."
