Drivers were left confused when a road sign said " welcome to Isle of Skye " - more than 140 miles away on the mainland.

But the sign had been erected for 50 Shades of Gray star Jamie Dornan's new film which was being shot last week at Kylesku in Sutherland.

Movie bosses doubled the Kylesku Bridge for the Skye Bridge for the Netflix production Undertow.

Local Highland Councillor Hugh Morrison said:"It was really confusing for tourists in particular. They must have thought they had taken the wrong turn and were not driving on the Scottish mainland but the Isle of Skye.

"It was more like 50 shades of wrong way! It was all because Jamie Dornan was filming. But I just wish we had the same council budget allocation as Skye gets!"

Dornan is playing identical twins in the Netflix drama, The Undertow.

And he was spotted at Kylesku on Thursday dressed as a fisherman - but with a designer pair of sunglasses to ease the glare of an even bigger star.

But not in keeping with the weather, Dornan was on set wearing a woolly jumper and work trousers.

Also taking part in the shoot was Scottish actor Gary Lewis, best known for his roles in films such as Billy Elliot, Joyeux No l, Gangs of New York and Eragon as well as major roles in the television docudrama Supervolcano and the Starz series Outlander.

The Undertow began filming in nearby Kinlochbervie last month and shooting will take place on the Isle of Mull - locations "chosen for their breath-taking beauty," say producers.

The Undertow is a crime noir series that sees Dornan take on the dual roles of identical twins Adam and Lee.

Suffocating in a loveless marriage to Adam, Nicola - played by Mackenzie Davis - sees her life take a dramatic turn when Adam's long-estranged identical twin brother Lee comes crashing back into her life, and their tangled romantic past threatens to destroy the present.

A split-second decision and a terrible accident drives Nicola to protect her children, and over the course of one week, Lee and Nicola are forced together, struggling to maintain a web of secrets and lies.

Glaswegian actor Iain De Caestecker has been cast in a lead role as Marty, a police constable and best friend of Lee.

The Undertow is to be released next year and is based on The Nordisk Film Production AS television series, Twin.
