Scots musician hired by superstar Lando Norris for Formula One gig

A singer and producer is hoping to race to the top of the music world - after helping out one of Formula One’s biggest stars.

Talented Archie Collingridge Watt, who performs as “archie”, was contacted by Lando Norris, 24, to recreate the official F1 opening titles for a video for his brand Quadrant.

But Norris, who drives for McLaren, only gave 20-year-old Archie, from Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, 24 hours to record it.

However, Archie answered his SOS and rattled out his version in his bedroom on his laptop, and it was complete by the next morning. It has now been seen by more than 750,00 people on the driver’s YouTube channel.

Archie said: “One of my best friends, Archie Brown, is Lando Norris’s videographer for his brand Quadrant and he got in touch to say, ‘We’ve got a Lando Norris video coming up and we want to use the F1 soundtrack in a segment of it’.

“We can’t use the original for copyright reasons, so can you make a version of it?’ Pretty much it was, ‘Can you make a new version of it and we need it by tomorrow morning’.

“It was a quick turnaround. I was quite nervous as I had never done an orchestral type of score, theme song before, so was very new to me. The production team seemed really happy with it. It was uploaded the next day.

“This is potentially opening up a new career path for me because I have been doing a lot more production work recently.”

Archie, who gained a massive following on social media by posting clips from the age of 14, has released several tracks of his own music.

And he has worked with top producers including Jake Gosling of One Direction and Ed Sheeran fame. His latest EP, titled Chasing Daisies, is out next month.

He joked: “ I am available to do the next James Bond theme tune.” archie’s score is from 0:30 until 1:15 in Norris’ latest F1 video on Youtube, here.
