Scots tourist missing in Poland traced after week long search

A Scot tourist who was reported missing in Poland by his worried family has been traced after a week-long search.

Sam Kennedy, from Clydebank, was last seen at his hotel in Krakow on June 28.

The 20-year-old was due to board a flight to Glasgow last week but he failed to return home. His worried family launched a public appeal for help to track him down.

His sister Robyn Kennedy wrote: "Sam has contacted us and we now know he is safe and well.

"The police are now happy to close the inquiry. Thank you everybody who put time and effort into helping us find him. We would appreciate some privacy as a family now."

His family had previously asked tourists and members of the public to help search for the missing Scotsman.

A post shared on Facebook last week by Robyn had read: "This is my brother Sam. He was supposed to have returned home from Poland (Krakow) on Thursday night but me and my family have not heard from him.

"If anyone knows any information that could help us find him please let us know and please share this post so we can reach as many people as possible.

"Any help is hugely appreciated by me and my family."

The Foreign Office had confirmed they were supporting the Kennedy family.

Police in Poland have since confirmed to the Record the young tourist has been traced after leaving the country.

A spokesperson for the Polish National Police said: "The Police have not received a report regarding the missing person.

"The Interpol Office in Great Britain has asked to check the whereabouts of the person.

"Based on the activities carried out, it was determined that the indicated person had left Poland, of which the British side was informed."

Police Scotland has also been approached for comment.
