Scots tree surgeon crushed to death on farm named as probe launched

An investigation has been launched following the death of a tree surgeon during the course of his work.

Kevin Williams, 50, was crushed by a falling tree in woodland near Blackhouse Farm, Eyemouth, Berwickshire, on Monday morning.

The emergency services were called out to the incident but Mr Williams from Kelso, Roxburghshire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received a report of the death of a 50-year-old man at a farm in Eyemouth around 8.45am on Monday, 29 April, 2024.

“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident in woodland near Blackhouse Farm, Eyemouth, at about 8.40am on Monday.

“They assisted the police and ambulance services but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Friends left flowers near the scene of the accident by Blackhouse Wind Turbine - around five miles north of Duns - on Tuesday afternoon.

A number of warning signs line the road warning of timber works in operation.

The Health and Safety Executive, which investigates accidents in the workplace, has confirmed it is aware of the incident.

A HSE spokesperson said: "We are aware of this incident and supporting Police Scotland with its enquiries."
